The Power of Going Barefoot: Grounding Practices That Actually Work

WRITTEN BY Charmaine Carraway

Soultribe, breathe.

There are days when we feel present in body but absent in spirit. We move through our routines, but it feels like something essential hasn’t quite caught up with us. Foggy mornings, restless nights, endless scrolling—disconnection creeps in silently. That disconnection isn’t weakness.

It’s a lack of grounding. The medicine is simple: go barefoot. When your feet touch grass, sand, soil, or stone, you’re not just “walking without shoes.”

You’re exchanging energy with the Earth. Science calls it grounding. Our ancestors simply called it living.

The benefits are clear:

Stress lowers.

• Your nervous system relaxes

•Your mind clears.

• Your spirit remembers.

Walking barefoot reminds us:

• We are not separate from Spirit.

•We are not cut off from Source.

• We are never broken—only ungrounded.

Four Grounding Practices That Work

Sweetheart, peace isn’t passive. It’s not something you stumble into—it’s something you build. And if you don’t build it intentionally, the noise of the world will bulldoze right over it.

Every day, we’re bombarded with messages, expectations, demands, and drama. You can start the day feeling light, but if you don’t shield your spirit, you’ll end it heavy. And baby, your peace is too sacred to keep giving away.

1. Touch Earth Barefoot

Find grass, soil, sand, or stone. Stand for five minutes. Breathe. Let your body catch up with your spirit.

2. Talk to the Earth

Speak to her as you would an elder. Share your worries. Offer gratitude. Let it be relationship, not routine.

3. Bathe with Intention

Add a handful of salt to your bath or find a river to soak in. Water clears what doesn’t belong to you. Pray or set intentions as you release.

4. Keep a Grounding Go-Bag

Life moves quickly. Prepare tools that bring you back when you drift—smoky quartz, a cleansing spray, grounding tea, a journal, and music that steadies your nervous system.

Auntie Charmaine’s Response

“Baby, your spirit knows when you’re rushing past yourself. You can’t fool her. Shoes on all day, phone in your hand, worry in your chest—of course you feel off. Take your shoes off. Put your feet on the ground. Don’t make it complicated. The Earth has been waiting to hold you. And stop saying you don’t have time. You scrolled for twenty minutes, didn’t you? Give the Earth five.”

Collective Soul Tribe Lesson

As a community, we cannot afford to walk around ungrounded. Disconnection makes us reactive, foggy, and fragile. But when we ground, we become steady. Present. Unshakeable.

Here’s your practice this week, Soultribe:

• Each morning, stand barefoot outside for five minutes.

• Each evening, write down one word that describes how you feel afterward.

• Share your words with the community—we ground deeper when we grow together.

You are not stuck. You are not lost. You are simply ungrounded. And now you know the way home.

OK Universe, we hear you. One barefoot step at a time.

Mantra

Shanti

(peace)

Speak this 5 times every morning before checking your phone, and 5 times every night before bed. Let it remind your spirit: peace is my power.

Say this 3 times in the morning, 3 times midday, and 3 times before sleep. Speak it until it becomes the truth your spirit walks in.

Affirmation

“I guard my peace as sacred. I am centered, grounded, and rooted in divine calm.”
